Carter Bells in the Community

Carter Bells has strong links with the local community. We are proud to be a corporate sponsor of the Rose Theatre (rosetheatrekingston.org) and to support local charities. Many staff members have long associations with local voluntary groups such as the Rotary and Round Table. The firm regularly fields teams in charity events run by companies from the surrounding area (and sometimes we nearly win!)

London Legal Walk 2013
On 20th May 2013, Carter Bells staff, friends and family are walking with the Lord Chief Justice and thousands of lawyers/legal sector workers to raise funds for the London Legal Support Trust, which funds Law Centres and 'pro bono' agencies in and around London.

The Citizens Advice Bureau and The Law Centre in Kingston benefit from the Trust. These agencies help prevent homelessness, resolve debt problems, gain care for the elderly and disabled and fight exploitation. With the current cuts in funding, there is an ever-increasing need to find alternative funds to continue their valuable work and support of the community. Carter Bells would like to thank everyone for their help towards this worthwhile cause of ensuring that justice is accessible to everyone.

Nominated Charity
In 2008 to coincide with the 150th Anniversary of the firm, Carter Bells hosted a Charity event - The Carter Bells Enigma Challenge. The event was attended by corporate clients with all proceeds going to a local Charity. The evening was such a success Carter Bells decided to make it an annual event.

The 5th Enigma Challenge was held on Thursday 10 May 2012 at The Richard Mayo Centre, United Reformed Church, Eden Street, Kingston, KT1 1HZ. The event challenged teams of four to a series of perplexing puzzles, dastardly dilemmas and challenging riddles in order to crack the code and beat the Enigma.

To celebrate the Olympics coming to London, the 2012 Pre-Event Challenge was an ancient Olympic Event, Chariot Racing. The teams had to construct their own working chariot and race it on the night. And like London 2012, Carter Bells Enigma Challenge 2012 was a resounding success.

The event was held to support our 2012 nominated charity, Princess Alice Hospice, and to raise awareness of the work that the Hospice does in our extended community. Please click here for details of the wonderful work of the Hospice.

Watch this space for this year’s Enigma Challenge. Enigma 2013 will be a mixture of our tried and tested Enigma conundrums and a treasure hunt with an Enigma twist. Prepare to be challenged!

Beneficiaries of the Enigma Challenge:
Much as we would love to support every charity that approaches us, we decided that concentrating our resources on just one charity each year would have more impact. Our main criterion is that our chosen charity (and it’s always a difficult choice) should be a local one.
